Patti's Workin' Ranch

Meet the Barkleys...

The creations bred on this ranch respectfully borrow the characters from the 1960's TV Western "The Big Valley" which is the property of Four Star Productions. Set in the 1870's in the San Joaquin Valley of California, the series tells the story of the Barkley family, one of the richest families in Stockton who made their fortune from ranching, mining and logging camps. The series focused on the family's strong bond with each other as they faced the joy, laughter and adversities of life in the old west.

Barbara Stanwyck as "Victoria Barkley"

The family is headed by the widow Victoria Barkley who's husband was killed in a battle with the railroad. She oversees her husband's holdings with the aid of her children.  A devoted mother, the Barkley matriarch is fierce and courageous when it comes to the protection of her family and it is a fool who underestimates her ability to overcome the harshest of circumstances.

Richard Long as "Jarrod Barkley"

Jarrod, the oldest son, is a prominent lawyer with offices in Stockton and San Francisco.  There is more to the 32 year-old man of action than his keen mind.  This charming, well-disciplined barrister has aptly taken over the role of "Father-figure" for his younger siblings and is not afraid to take a place at the side of his brothers in defense of his family's safety .

Peter Breck as "Nick Barkley"

Nick, the aggressive and often hot headed rancher, oversees the family's ranching empire.  The 28 year-old is full of untamed energy and power and the strong willed stubbornness that goes along with it.  He is fiercely protective of his family and despite his rough outward appearance, he possesses a heart of gold and will loyally defend those he loves at all costs.

Lee Majors as "Heath"

Heath is the illegitimate son of the deceased patriarch Tom Barkley, who claimed his birthright six years after the elder Barkley was killed and eventually became a beloved, devoted member of the family.  Often quiet and reserved, the 24 year-old cowboy has seen his share of heartache and hard times.  His silent, composed demeanor often speaks louder than words, but he has been known to display his inherited Barkley stubborn pride.

Linda Evans as "Audra Barkley"

Audra, the youngest and only daughter, lives in her brothers' shadows but holds her own in her sensitive, feisty manner.  This wild and free-spirited 19 year-old is not afraid of facing down anyone who challenges her and it is clear that any man would be hard pressed to tame her.

Charles Briles as "Eugene Barkley"

The youngest Barkley son, Eugene often finds it hard to hold his own beneath his brothers' shadow.  A scholar at Berkley, the 18 year-old may be sensitive and unsure of himself, but he is no coward and will stand by his siblings when the need arises.
